Our request to potential fundraisers
Thank you so much for wanting to raise money on behalf of our cause. We have recently been troubled by illegal activities being done in our name and thereby earning the ill-will of those who thought they had donated to us, so we would be grateful if you collected donations for us only after having spoken to us. This may seem like a less than loving response to your kindness, but we would be grateful if you would not use our photos, forms, newsletters or online material without our express consent.
Leave a Legacy
By leaving us a legacy in your will, you can ensure that the Friends of the Lazarus Home for Girls in Bethany will continue to benefit from your generosity after your death.
What types of legacy can you leave?
There are three main types of legacies:
- a residuary legacy which is the gift of all or part of the residue of your estate. The residue is what is left after all debts, taxes, costs and specific and pecuniary bequests have been paid
- a pecuniary legacy, which is a specific sum of money
- a specific bequest, which is a specific item (such as jewellery)
Legal wording for various kinds of bequest
• Residuary bequest
"I give all (or a ....% share of) the residue of my estate to the Friends of the Lazarus Home for Girls, Charity No. 1075024 to be used for its Lazarus Project and I declare that the receipt of their Treasurer or other proper officer shall be a full and sufficient discharge."
• Pecuniary bequest
"I give free of tax to the Friends of the Lazarus Home for Girls, Charity No. 1075024 the sum of [words and figures] to be used for Lazarus Project, and I declare that the receipt of their Treasurer or other proper officer shall be a full and sufficient discharge."
• A codicil (this is an addition to a Will)
“I [Name] of [Address] declare this to be a (first/second/etc.) codicil to my will dated [date] . In addition to any legacies given in my said will I give the Friends of the Lazarus Home for Girls, Charity No. 1075024, 2 The Steadings, Old Hartley, Whitley Bay NE26 4RL, the sum of [amount] ( or specific item to be given) to be used for its Lazarus Project and I declare that the receipt of the Treasurer or duly authorised officer shall be a full and sufficient discharge. In all other respects I confirm my said will and any other codicils thereto. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand this [number] day of [month/year].”
