The Lazarus Home for Girls is the only organisation in Al-Ezariya/Bethany that accepts orphans and girls that come from dysfunctional, abusive or poverty-stricken homes.
The Friends of Lazarus were established after several of us visited the area and became involved in the local action to help orphans. We are a group of people in North East England who have decided to dedicate themselves to the work of the Lazarus Home and so formed the Friends of the Lazarus Home for Girls as a charity.
We were granted official UK charitable status in 1999 and in 2017 became a CIO with a new charity number 1163342. We have also received official Palestinian recognition as Recognised Palestinian Non Governmental Organisation NO-QR-0200-F.
The Friends have a Board of Trustees in the UK and a local representative in Palestine, Mr Ibrahim A. Younan, who reports to, and has direct accountability to, the Board of Trustees for approval. This has been sanctioned by the statutory and legal bodies in Palestine and the UK.
In addition, we have a local advisory board of Palestinians based in the area to help us with legal and cultural matters, so that we are able to work with sensitivity and local knowledge.
